I’m going through Lost again. I like this show, but it doesn’t make sense. So much of the conflict of this show is driven by characters purposefully being cryptic. I’m currently on “Through the Looking Glass”, and I’m so annoyed by Ben. All of the Others are annoying. They always seem surprised when the Survivors don’t believe them about bad news. I hate when shows do this.
Also, Lost clearly had nowhere to go. That’s why the flash-sideways happened in the first place. That being said, it’s undeniable that this show had an epic following.
Edit: Found this quote from an Esquire interview with Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse, two of the main forces behind the show. In it Lindelof says the following:
One of the most popular theories during the first season was that they were in purgatory — that they had all died on the plane. That was not our favorite theory because it feels like we were saying it in season one, we were saying it in season two, and we’re saying it three years after the show ended that it wasn’t that.
